North Korea IT Infiltration, UK Donation Curbs, CLARITY Talks Lead Latest Crypto Policy Roundup

A wide set of crypto and policy developments emerged between Sept. 13 and Sept. 14, spanning cyber risks, regulation, markets and AI. NBC reported that North Korea has been recruiting remote IT workers from third countries including Iran and Lebanon to help infiltrate U.S. companies, paying interview assistants $500 a month in crypto before North Korean personnel allegedly take over the jobs. In the U.K., the Labour government is moving to curb large political donations from wealthy overseas donors after crypto billionaires Christopher Harborne and BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo gave a combined £72 million to Reform UK in two days. Elsewhere, Token Unlocks data showed major upcoming releases for ZRO, ARB, BR and several other tokens next week. Europe’s Eurosystem said its DLT settlement project Pontes is scheduled to go live on Sept. 21, while Brazil’s central bank capital rules could force roughly 290 crypto exchanges out of the market. Chainflip said it lost about 736,400 USDT in an attack on Tron. U.S. lawmakers are also preparing more discussions on AI and the CLARITY Act, as industry figures including Cathie Wood, Arthur Hayes, Vitalik Buterin and Nate Geraci weighed in on regulation, governance and market structure.

LSK Spike Followed by 3.3 Million Token Transfer to Binance From Wallet Tied by On-Chain Clues to Lisk CEO

PANews reported on Sept. 13, citing on-chain tracker Ember, that Lisk’s token LSK surged from about $0.2 to as high as $2.37 in a sharp move that briefly put the price at roughly 11 times its earlier level. During the run-up, short liquidations reached about $36 million. After the jump, Ember said a wallet suspected to be linked to Lisk co-founder and CEO Max Kordek transferred 3.3 million LSK to Binance, worth about $3.79 million. The attribution was based on an on-chain link: the sending wallet and another address that had previously received gas from an address related to Max Kordek were said to share the same Binance deposit address. The report also made clear that the ownership claim has not been confirmed by either Lisk or Max Kordek. At this stage, the wallet label remains an inference drawn from on-chain associations rather than a verified identification.

Lisk to shut down Lisk Chain and wind down DAO as it pivots to a corporate treasury platform

Lisk said it is abandoning its legacy blockchain-focused structure and repositioning itself as a modern treasury operations platform for corporate finance teams. Founder Max Kordek announced on Aug. 25 that the company will focus on accounts, payments and approval workflows, targeting businesses that operate across multiple entities and jurisdictions while using both fiat and stablecoins. Eligible companies already have access to an Early Access version of the platform. The company said the product currently supports unified management of bank and stablecoin accounts, bank transfers, stablecoin payments and collections, and role-based payment approvals. It also plans to expand into corporate cards, non-custodial treasury management and payroll integrations. As part of the shift, Lisk Chain will shut down on Oct. 31, 2026. Lisk said it has worked with the Celo team to provide a migration path for onchain dApps, developers and projects. It also proposed winding down Lisk DAO, including burning 100 million LSK from the DAO treasury, cutting total supply from 400 million to 300 million, removing staking penalties and gradually shutting governance infrastructure. LSK will be repositioned as a loyalty token for the new platform, with future use in rewards and fee payments.
